Listed Species Surveys
Aside from gopher tortoises, Excelsior’s ecological staff are experienced in surveying for the following listed species:

-
Florida Scrub-Jay (five-day survey)
-
Sand skink and bluetail mole skink (pedestrian and coverboard survey)

Generally, we can establish whether a survey is necessary during the initial ecological assessment. Factors evaluated include proximity to a USFWS Wildlife Consultation Area, landcover, soils, and elevation. If these criteria are met, the USFWS will likely require a survey to be conducted.

Please note that these surveys must be conducted during specific parts of the year in order for the survey results to be recognized by the USFWS.

Florida scrub-jay survey season runs from March 1st to October 31st each year.

As of 2023, skink coverboard survey season runs from March 1st through May 15th, and October 15th through December 15th.
